Axis Lab Table at NJ High School | Longo

The Mountain Lakes High School, located in Mountain Lakes, NJ has just opened a new Academy for Biotechnology.  The science classroom space utilizes Sheldon’s Axis Lab Table, oak wood laboratory casework, epoxy resin counter tops and laboratory fume hoods.

What is Biotechnology? According to the online version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “the manipulation (as through genetic engineering) of living organisms or their components to produce useful usually commercial products (such as pest resistant crops, new bacterial strains, or novel pharmaceuticals); also: any of various applications of biological science used in such manipulation”.1

The high school has created a four-year program consisting of 22 of the top students in Morris County, which includes students from multiple surrounding towns who wish to concentrate on studies in the biotech field. The state of New Jersey is home to seven key industries, one of them being biotechnology. An estimated 25 percent of the U.S. biotech industry resides in three New Jersey counties.

Longo Labs was chosen to provide the biotech classroom and prep room furniture. All of the products purchased were obtained by using the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ). These pre-negotiated contracts are extremely valuable as they provide high quality furnishings that are reasonably priced.
